Friday 5th February - bike ***** - Around Felixstowe including lunch with ‘Emily’ – sunny and mild.

With some horrendous weather coming over the weekend and into next week, very cold, windy and snow we were keen to make the most of today's wall to wall sunshine with light airs. So, with ideal biking weather we packed a yummy chicken sandwich, made a flask and headed out on our very muddy bikes around midday. With it being sunny we decided to avoid the prom here at Felixstowe heading through the town to Marsh lane and down to Kings Fleet, this farm track has puddles everywhere, never know so much rain here in Suffolk! Not many birds about, a few Reed Buntings and Pippets, then as we reached the tarmac lane at Falkenham four deer crossed in front of us but sadly disappeared into the bushes before I could get my camera ready. With my 18 – 135 lense broken I had to carry my 100 – 400 which is a bit of a nightmare on the bike! Hopefully my new camera and lens are arriving very soon, can’t wait:) We arrive at our favourite seat by Falkenham Church and were lucky to get it with several people coming to see the famous snowdrops! It was lovely sitting here enjoying the fantastic view down to the River Deben, there was even one yacht sailing! The chicken sandwich was delicious and we had several birds flying past, a Buzzard, Kestrel, Robin, Tits, Blackbird and hundreds of pigeons! Well rested we had a walk around the church yard to taken in the beautiful snowdrops, now in full bloom in between the grave stones, just lovely especially set against a deep blue sky, perfect:) We then took the county lanes onto Kirton, followed by Trimley to Grimston Lane but sadly no herd of deer about today. The last section of lanes down to the back of Felixstowe dock was very wet and muddy, not helped by lots of building works going on! Stopping off at the Co-op to get a local paper as I have a pic in and then home for a cuppa and rock cake, yum yum:)

PS – while out the phone pinged and on checking, it was the local health centre offering me my covid vaccination making me feel very old but very happy at the same time!!! Fingers crossed this is the start of the end of this terrible virus!
